Introduction
With an adjustable metronome, incremental sustain pedal, and multi-touch support, Piano DX Free contains everything you could ever possibly need to become the best darned iPianist ever to grace a Retina display!
The Best Piano Tuner Apps for iPadAs a musician, I always find myself getting terribly distracted by musical instrument apps because I end up seeing just how true they are to the real thing in terms of the kind of sounds they are able to emulate.
Piano DX Free obviously doesn’t size up to the real thing but I’m very impressed by the quality of the audio and the vast amount of functionality the developer has managed to pool together into a single piano keyboard app.
Pi-a-pi-a-pi-a-no!
When you first start using Piano DX Free, I would recommend starting by tapping the Play button as this will enable you to jump straight into the action and be presented with a piano.
The best piano apps for iPhone-2021Unlike many similar apps, you’ll have access to a full 88-key piano, with a handy slider tool at the top of the screen which enables you to move along the keys very easily.
Tapp the piano icon at the top of the screen to adjust various aspects of the way the piano keys are displayed. This includes the key width, sharp width, sharp height, and more.

Within the General Options menu you’ll also find a selection of color schemes and the option to toggle Finger Slide on and off, which I think is very handy as the touchscreen tends to be a little clumsy from time to time.
Best iphone and ipad appsIf you like what you see in the Play section then you’ll definitely want to look at the Learn section. In here you’ll find various song packs that will help you learn certain pieces of music in some fairly well-defined learning modes.
The developer has been kind enough to include a Starter Song Pack which contains four very different pieces to get you started, and you can then unlock more via in-app purchase.
Pros and Cons

- Starter Song Pack to get you up and running before buying more songs via in-app purchase
- Free Play mode lets you unleash your inner Ludwig Van
- Adjust the visual layout of your piano by changing the width and height of the keys
- Adjustable metronome and sustain pedal serve to really complete the package
Cons
- The touchscreen can be a little clumsy
Final Words
I really am very impressed with both the quantity and quality of the content offered up by Piano DX Free.
As I mentioned in the introduction, an iOS app could never beat the feel of real piano keys under your fingers but this piano app is about as close to the real thing as you’re going to get without actually going out and buying a grand piano!
