WSMV Channel 4 app review: keeping you up-to-date on Nashville's news

Reviews

Introduction

For those who live in the Nashville area who want a way to be able to stay up-to-date on all the current news in the region and country, there is a quick and easy solution. The WSMV Channel 4 app for your iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad provides you with all the latest news reports and weather details that you need. What's great is that you can check this information even while out and about. The information found in the app is straight from Nashville's Channel 4 News and WSMV.COM team.

Stay in the Know

There is no need to let stories pass you by, have no idea what the weather is supposed to do, or not know how traffic is thanks to this app. This app has a very simple and basic goal and that is to keep you in touch with what’s currently happening near you. Use this app to find all the latest details on the news, weather, entertainment, sports, health, traffic, and videos. You can also visit the WSMV.com website through the link in the app.

What’s fun is that you can mark sections/categories as favorites so you can check them out first. There is also the ability to become a report yourself when you submit a story through the app. You can take a photo, record video, call the newsroom, or send them an email all from within the app.

Needs a Facelift

While there is plenty of news coverage here the user interface seems to have fallen by the wayside. When you launch the app you are instantly taken to the top news stories, which feels very dull. There is nothing engaging that makes you want to read further. The most current story is displayed at the top with a time stamp but it all just feels really bland.

When reading content you are able to mark a story as a  favorite, increase the font size, and share the story by email, SMS, Twitter, and Facebook. At all times there is a weather bar at the top of the screen that shows the current temperature and conditions in Nashville. I find a lot of the content is very slow to load, most of the stories lack in the photos/visuals department, and the whole app has a very dated feel about it.

I like that this app provides you with a local look at the news; I just wish it was more engaging and made you want to come back.

Final Thoughts

The WSMV Channel 4 app for your iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad could be a great way to find your local news but it’s just so dull, slow, and dated-looking that I can’t imagine coming back to this one.
