I take my hat off for the designers of this app. They have custom designed this app specifically for iOS and it shows. The app is easy to use, nicely laid-out, and is a feast to the eye. Simply use touch controls to browse the news or select the many options this app has to offer, about which I will tell you more in a bit. On the left side of the screen a direct feed to all the latest news that is available on the TechCrunch website, while on the right hand side there is a feed that shows you all the trending articles, but also gives you a selection to go to tweets or videos.

One of the most awesome features in this app is the built-in capability to save all the current articles for local reading. This stays within the app, so you don’t need to install a separate reader. Within the news feed you can also select a ton of sub categories, including Crunchbase, a free database of technology companies (TechCrunch’s version of LinkedIn). Of course all the social media possibilities are available here, which is what you would expect from a company such as AOL. You can also comment on articles if you want to share your thoughts. All in all, the app is everything that you expect from the TechCrunch website and more!

AOL has truly delivered a fantastic technology news reader for iPhone and iPad. Seeing that the app is just over 11 MB in size, it’s amazing how clear and functional the design of the app is. The option to save all current news on your device is amazing, especially for those long flights without wireless Internet, or other moments where you might be void of internet. The option to select your category will help people who want to be more specific about their news greatly, while the constant twitter feed and in-app videos are surely a great addition. Anyone who is looking for such an app should stop searching right now and download this app as it’s one of the best news apps I have seen in a long while.
