Uncle’s Room app review: a room where you will have to escape from by solving simple and difficult puzzles

Reviews

Introduction

In 2012, a new game was released for the App Store, called The Room. This app was a beautiful adventure through the mind of a madman who had created all kinds of puzzles that would surprise you every step of the way. This app was a huge success and eventually this app went free for a short time, just before the sequel was released. The sequel, even though not as big a success as the initial release, was praised by critics and players alike. Since then, a lot of different developers have tried offering a similar experience, but never really reached the quality of the visuals or the puzzles. Developer Coolbuddy.com decided to give it a go as well, and released Uncle’s Room, a game compatible with both iPad and iPhone.

Gameplay

The gameplay of the game, at least as far as I played, it was relatively limited. You can’t really look around the room as you want to as only a few options are interactive. You simply double-tap on an object to zoom in and you can interact with only a few of these objects. The puzzles are sometimes extremely difficult and farfetched, while others are extremely easy, making the entire game quite unbalanced. Where logic was used in its inspiration, some of the puzzles seem quite random, and not logical at all. In this game, the first chapter is free, and only has a few little puzzles. It took me only a few minutes to get through the first part, mainly due to the very handy hints feature.

Graphics and Sound

Where the game stands out from all the other games that try to get the same success as the room are the graphics department. The graphics of Uncle’s Room are actually on par with the ones from The Room and look stunning. The only comparison I have to make is that this game has a lot less detail and objects in the game, making it a lot easier to make things look great. The sound of the game, a lot less important but still to mention, is weaker than in its inspiration, but it still does the trick.

Conclusion

If you haven’t tried any of these games before, please start with this one. You can try the first chapter for free, and unlock all chapters for $2.99. If you only want one extra chapter, you will have to pay $1.99. There is a very generous hint system in the game which should be able to help you if you get stuck, as the puzzles can be a bit illogical. The graphics of the game are amazing. The app is compatible with both iPad and iPhone and is just under 25 MB, which is nothing for a game like this.
