Tiny Fighter app review: a clone of a famous game made impossibly difficult

Reviews

Introduction

Tiny Fighter, a game for iPad and iPhone by developer Vladimir Mymrik is a game that looks a lot like Flappy Bird in concept. There is a huge difference though. This game is obviously released way later than the original game that took the App Store by storm. There is another big difference, which is gameplay-based. Flappy Bird was extremely difficult, but fair in terms of losing the game.

Gameplay

As mentioned earlier in the introduction, the game is very basic and works kind of similarly to Flappy Bird. Your character will move automatically, but instead of having to touch the screen to flap your wings, you play as a ninja who will kick when you touch the screen. The first few times I played it wasn’t really clear to me what to do, as the walls on the way were blocking my way, and kicking them didn’t work (I thought). After a long while, I finally found out that I needed to kick just before my ninja comes to the wall, a timing that doesn’t really make sense when you look at it. You will really need to get this timing down, otherwise you will never be finding you with a score higher than only a few lucky points.

Graphics and Sound

The graphics of the game are exactly what you would expect from a game that takes almost every aspect of the successful Flappy Bird. The game looks like an 8-bit Nintendo entertainment system game and this works very well with the type of game. The graphic style fits perfectly with the one-touch gameplay style, and the sound fits in perfectly as well, as there is nothing much to that either. The downside is that there are a lot of ads popping up all the time, which is definitely not a throwback to the eighties.

Conclusion

This game is a complete rip off of the Flappy Bird concept. It does it pretty well though and has the 8-bit feel down as it should. The sound, gameplay, and graphics are all really simplistic and it works well together. There are a few downsides, mainly on the gameplay front, as the timing of the kick is off compared to what you see on the screen. The game is compatible with both iPad and iPhone, and weighs just over 6 MB. The app is completely free, but very addictive at the same time.
