If you’ve ever wondered how everyday words and phrases might sound coming from the mouth of a salty sea dog then you might want to check out Speakin Pirate for iPhone and iPad, a text-based phonetic translator app.
I would like to emphasize before we get into the review that there is no audio content in this app; everything is text-based. As much as I would love an audible pirate translator utility, I think we’ll have to wait until someone comes up with one!
What we have here is a fun and rather novel addition to the Entertainment category of the App Store, providing you with some basic tools to create text-based phonetic translations of your common words and phrases into the silver-tongued slurs of a pirate.
The developer seems to have made this app largely with actors and other performers in mind, but I’ve been having some fun playing around with it. You can also share your translations with your friends and family online via Facebook, email, and text message.

There isn’t much more for me to say about Speakin Pirate other than to reiterate that I think it’s a fun little iPhone and iPad app which should suit all you scurvy-cursed, weevil-ridden sea scoundrels quite nicely!
