Kids Reading app review: picture books that thrill

Reviews

Introduction

Picture books are a wonderful way to learn, discover, and engage with a young reader. The Kids Reading app for your iPod touch, iPad, and iPhone provides kids with an educational picture book experience. The app is heavy on the pictures and there is a story as well and it's all about the world that kids live in, surrounded by everyday items and beauty. This app can be enjoyed by babies all the way through to kids six years old. It's an interactive experience that has been designed to appeal to multiple senses.

Customize the Experience

While the Kids Reading app has plenty going for it including the fact it is an interactive experience, the factor that helps it stand out in this segment is that it is fully customizable. You will be able to personalize it so that it works for your child's needs. Parents can add in their own voice to narrate the story so their child will feel as though mommy or daddy is reading to them, even if they aren't there. The books all feature beautiful and professional pictures, and there aren’t any illustrations or cartoons. Kids will get a realistic view of the items they are reading about.

The app hasn't had any updates in quite some time yet it enjoys an almost perfect customer rating of 4.5 out of five stars. It's got such a professional polish to it and it runs extremely smoothly so it's certainly not suffering from lack of updates.

Effective on a Number of Levels

What I really enjoy about the Kids Reading app is that it is effective on so many different levels. For young babies and toddlers it's a great way to start learning about the sights in their everyday life and as they get older it's a wonderful way to start recognizing some common words. As the story is read the words are highlighted and the narration is incredibly engaging and lively. There are ways to personalize the story in order to capture your child's attention even more, and there are a number of tools you can turn off/on. When you launch the story you can choose from three different reading modes: read to me, read by myself, or auto-play.

While the story isn't especially long I find it really well-done. The photos appear crisp and beautiful, the story itself is easy to follow, and it uses common words.
