WordBrain app review: unscramble the word puzzles

Reviews

Introduction

WordBrain is an iPhone and iPad game that challenges you to find the scrambled words in the set grid. The grid begins with four letters, and increases to many more after you go through a few rounds.

Solve the Word

WordBrain first needs you to find the four letter word in the grid of four letters. After a few rounds, the words go from one option, to multiple options. This is when the game starts getting tricky! I played for a while, and really enjoyed looking for the right word. I could have played all night!

I admit that I like word games. I’m generally really bad at them, but hey, that doesn’t mean that I don’t like trying! This one provided enough challenge to keep me playing, but also progressed slow enough that I was able to keep up. There are hints if you’re stuck, so when the game jumps from the 2x2 grid to the 3x3 grid, more than doubling the letters, you can get a clue as to what the two words you must solve for are.

No Penalty

WordBrain doesn’t penalize you if you get the answer wrong. I like this because it means that I can try as many combinations as possible to get the correct answer. The game has 580 levels for you to beat, and can be played in 15 different languages to suit your strengths.

I also appreciate that the letters are clear and easy to read. The board looks like a Boggle board, except that rather than looking for whatever word you can find like in the Boggle game, you are looking for specific words. As mentioned above, there are definitely more than one possibility for solutions. That makes it tricky because once you see one option it is often difficult to see another. I missed seeing soup after all!

I can see this game being useful in education for unscrambling words, learning letters, and such. I look forward to using it in my tutoring business as a free time activity that is also educational.

Final Thoughts

WordBrain is a great word game to keep you thinking. You have to solve the 580 puzzles that are available in over 15 languages, and while they start out easy enough, they quickly become more difficult. I really enjoyed this game, and can’t wait to show it to my tutoring students as a quick game between the hard work. Kids love to play a little puzzle game between more difficult activities, and with the fun presentation of the game, it doesn’t feel like work at all. Overall, this is a very well-thought-out game, and I really enjoyed playing it. I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy a word puzzle game with unscrambling fun.
