Talking to Toddlers app review: expand your toddler's vocabulary

Reviews

Introduction

If you are a parent of a toddler and are looking for ways to expand his or her vocabulary then this is an app that is designed to help. The Talking to Toddlers app can be used on your iPod touch, iPad, and iPhone and uses the information found in a study to boost your child's vocabulary. The app has actually been created by a teacher who set out on their own three-year study that showed that you can improve a toddler's IQ, vocabulary, and school performance just by talking to him.

Educational Tools

Parents always seem to be on the hunt for educational tools and the Talking to Toddlers app is one that takes the approach of simply talking to your young children. Don't worry, you aren't expected to just start up random conversations and hope they have an impact; instead, you're given a series of books to read to them. Each of the books offers interactive activities to draw kids in and keep them focused. There are 12 books in total that you will be given and they include such titles as Winter Fun, A Book for Bedtime, Lines for Lunch, Songs for Shopping, Poems for Playtime, and more. What's really great is that as parents go through the books reading the word is highlighted and there is a musical score. Kids can even tap on words to learn what each one is.

The app hasn't been updated in over two years but that hasn't slowed it down with the customer ratings as this one still enjoys four out of five stars. Parents have called it engaging, enjoyable, and fun.

More than Just Reading

The Talking to Toddlers app is more than just reading: there are 12 activities, 60 matching games, and 60 jigsaw puzzles meant to entertain and build upon the skills they are learning. In the educational activities kids will be listening and then they need to answer and talk back, this obviously is working on their vocabulary the whole time and keeps them busy in a productive way. The jigsaw puzzles are great for their fine motor skills and spatial reasoning, all very important to learn at a young age. There are also the 60 matching games where they will be working with word repetition.

The graphics are pretty basic but they are definitely enough to appeal to toddlers. The app itself is kid-friendly and they will be able to move through it with ease.
