Games, Videos, and Other Interactive Learning

When you first open Baby Animals Lite, you are presented with a menu screen with six options. Baby animals matching game, baby animal photos, Pocoyo - Puppy Love video from television, Baby Beluga song video with lyrics, two kittens puzzle game, and an advertisement for Santa and Rudolph. I played the matching game, and puzzle games with my kids, and flipped through the photos, but I didn’t watch the videos with them. They did watch the videos while I did the dishes, and had no problems with it.

When I was playing the matching game on my iPhone, I did run into one technical issue. It wasn’t a big problem, I just had almost all of the cards matched, and then realized that I had to scroll down for the final row of cards. For an adult, this isn’t a problem, but thinking like a child I would have seen the remaining cards and wondered how I could possibly win the game if the remaining cards do not match.

Photo Cards for Learning Animals

Baby Animals Lite has several animal flash cards you can show your child. My kids love animals as many kids do, and the app has a selection of many animals to view. You can scroll through at your own speed or you can push play to view as a slide show. I also appreciate that there is a caption on each photo for you to read to your child as a story. The slide show is quite quick, so I prefer to scroll through at my own speed.

The Baby Beluga song does not have lyrics on-screen, so it is more of a video to watch, but once your child gets the hang of the song, it is easy enough to sing along with.

Final Thoughts

Baby Animals Lite: Videos, Games, Photos, Books & Interactive is an iPhone and iPad app to help your child learn about baby animals. There are flash cards to learn the names, there is a matching game to play and test their memory, and there is a puzzle that they can also do to continue their puzzle learning. Overall, this is a well-developed app, but I would have liked to see lyrics on the Baby Beluga video, a single screen for the matching game, and more than one puzzle picture to select. The flash cards also go by quite quickly when in slide show mode. As I said though, overall, they did a great job putting the app together.
