Hone Your Skills

4 Dice a Fractions Game is a dice game that will help you to develop your skills. Add, subtract, multiply, and divide through a series of game mode options. Practice your analytical thinking by solving for the equation when you’re given the answer as a fraction, then bowl down the answer to find out if you’re right.

I am not strong at solving for the missing equation. I tried several of the dice rolls for addition, and I still couldn’t get it. That being said, it’s a great practice tool to get your students practicing. If I had paper and pencil to jot down, I’m sure I could have worked it out as I could have kept trying the dice in different places to get the right answer. I just didn’t have the materials handy. When tutoring, I always make sure to have the paper and pencil, eraser, and some manipulatives handy to help my students figure out how to do the questions.

Shake or Flick

4 Dice a Fractions Game allows you to either shake your phone or flick them to roll. Additionally, there is a shake button to get you on to the question creation stage. I clicked on addition to hopefully pick the easiest option, but it was tricky as stated above. Once you shake the dice, move the four dice into the fraction forms to match the answer on the bowling pins. When you think you’ve got it, roll the ball. If you get it right then you’ll get a strike. If not, then you get a sentence saying that your answer does not equal the answer on the bowling pins. It shows the equation you created, and then solves for the correct equation so you can see where you went wrong.

I am impressed with how well this app was designed and the thought that went into it. There is a jot section, and you can see your dice there, it just took me a bit of time to figure out how to navigate the options. There’s a clear, pen, and another pen that I don’t know what it’s for. When you’re ready to go back to the main screen, hit the x to complete your equation.
