A Monster of an Adventure

It's time to enjoy a monster of an adventure thanks to the Blaze and the Monster Machines app. The app is of course fun for kids but it also serves an educational purpose which is to introduce kids to STEM concepts, which are technology, science, math, and engineering. The app will have kids racing through tracks that they have either built on their own or they can use one of the pre-set courses. The building and racing through the tracks is meant to work on a few skills, which are scientific principles and critical thinking.

The app requires iOS 7.0 or later to use and has just been updated with a number of performance improvements. Unfortunately it only has 2.5 out of five stars from users who are having problems with the download and even using the features in this app. It seems as though this one could use some performance improvements and stability fixes.

What Kids Can Expect

The Blaze and the Monster Machines app features 15 different levels and each of these levels get harder as kids go. The controls are relatively simple and consist of either swiping or tilting the screen. At the end of the race there are awards to give out in gold, silver, and bronze. To help kids make their way through the tracks there are power-ups to use such as hubcaps that can make you go faster, soapy tires that will allow you to fly right over those patches that are sticky, and more. There are even a few different locations just to keep things interesting.

While there are plenty of fun features and characters the problem is that this app is so unstable and not always user-friendly, which is obviously an important part of a children’s app. It appears as though it needs some more refinements.

Final Thoughts
