Lochfoot app review: an excellently written and designed ebook for kids

Reviews

Introduction

Lochfoot is an iPad book for children who love mysterious creatures such as the Loch Ness Monster and Bigfoot. In fact, this story tells the tale of a monster that is a combination of these two famous monsters!

Read with Your Child

Lochfoot fills one of my favorite niches on the iPad: that of the read aloud story book. I also like the fact that my kids can read on their own and that read aloud books on the iPad will help them to gain confidence and learn new words. My kids love monsters, so this was a great read for them. The creator’s son also loves monsters, and when he showed his dad a picture of Bigfoot riding the Loch Ness Monster, they began to theorize what the children of the two would look like if they got married. That is how Lochfoot was born.

The animated story was designed exclusively for tablets, and Lochfoot is a multimedia reading experience with 26 pages of rich illustrations, music, sound effects, voices, and narration. It is geared to readers age four through eight, and this hit both of my daughters pretty well. Both my almost three year old and my almost seven year old sat down with the app and read along flipping back and forth through the pages as they do with print books. The difference is that the narrator would read to them when they were ready to hear the story.

Animated Journey

Lochfoot is an animated journey for your child’s imagination. My children enjoy creating many stories with made up creatures of their own design, so when I told them that this was a story created by a father and son, they were keen to give it a read through. As mentioned above, they really enjoyed sitting together, and even got along for a while! They’re typically not good at sharing my iPad other than when they really like an app or for a quick school lesson.

The best iPhone apps for Disney World

I like sitting with the kids to read through these animated journeys, and this app provides a great read. It was created by father and son, so kids will eat it up. The settings allow for page jumping as well as voice and narration options for parent/child reading. If you prefer, just turn off the narration so you can read to your child on your own. There aren’t multiple languages in this story, but this is honestly difficult when you are narrating a printed ebook. You’d have to publish the pages in each language to make that a successful transition, and that is a lot more work, not to mention a lot more memory on your device.

Final Thoughts

Lochfoot is an iPad storybook for kids to enjoy on their own, or with parents. It features a fun character that is the combination of the Loch Ness Monster and Bigfoot. I love the backstory of the father and son developers talking about the children of these two monsters, and the whole story is fun too. Overall, I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves to share stories with their kids.
