If you’re one of those people who just can’t seem to take care of plants properly you’re definitely not alone. Knowing when to water plants, how often to water them, when to give them fertilizer, and what amount of sunlight they need is not as simple as it may seem. If plants don’t get just the right amount of care you can bet you’ll be coming home to dried out and shrivelled-up plants. That’s where MyPlants comes in as it can help turn the least likely plant enthusiast into a master gardener in no time. This app is available for purchase from the App Store for $1.99 and it’s compatible with the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Growing Your Garden

Gardening can be one of the most rewarding hobbies or one of the most frustrating depending on how dedicated you really are. Some of us have a knack for it and for the rest of us? Don’t worry, there’s an app that can help! MyPlants is a great app with a comprehensive set of tools to help turn the average gardener into a great one. Gardening should be fun not a chore and with the right tools it can be.

While this app has a lot of great tools to help you in your quest to become a better gardener, I did have a couple of issues with it. The first is the use of ads within the app; I understand the need for ads in a free app but this is an app you have to pay for. It’s a little frustrating to have to pay for an app and still have to put up with third-party ads. The other thing that bothered me about this one was the lack of instructions. The only instruction they provide is directing you to click on Menu to get started. The app is certainly easy to use and most people will figure it out without too much bother, but it would be really helpful if they had a quick walkthrough of the app, a video tutorial, or something similar to get you started. As far as I could tell the only way to get any help is to email the developers. This app will require 93.6 MB of free space on your iOS device.

How it Works

When you run MyPlants for the first time you’ll be directed to touch the menu and add a plant to get started. To add a plant you can either scroll through the database, type in a plant name in the search field, or search by photo. The search by photo options is a really nice touch that way you can scroll through the pictures if you’re not sure of your plants name and try and find one that matches. For those of us that aren’t expert gardeners this can be a really helpful tool.

Once you’ve found the plant you‘re looking for you can simply tap on the plus sign to add it to you plants directory.  The app will give you direction as to how often you should water and fertilize the plant, and it will ask you if you want reminders as well. If you’re serious about developing your green thumb it’s great to have a reminder tool to help you in your quest.
