Tagwhat app review: find out what’s happening in your local area

Reviews

Introduction

It’s not always easy keeping track of what’s going on in your local area. It can be very frustrating finding out that your favorite athlete was at a book signing at the local mall last week and you knew nothing about it. In the past you would have to keep an eye out in your local community paper, but even that was a bit of a crap shoot. Today, there are other options available for keeping track of local events, and Tagwhat is one of the better ones you’ll come across. This is a free app and it’s compatible with the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.

Track Local Events

There are all kinds of apps these days that are geared towards making your life a little easier. If you want to know the best restaurants in town or the best nightclubs there’s an app for that. When you think of these types of apps Foursquare may be the first one that comes to mind but it’s not the only option out there. Tagwhat is in this category but it provides some services you won’t find with Foursquare. If you’re looking for local deals and events or just something to do near you Tagwhat is a great tool to help you with that.

Best iphone and ipad apps

This is a pretty cool app with a lot of interesting little details. One of the things that really caught my eye was the little directional arrow that accompanies every article or event listing. When you look at the list of articles in the channel you have selected you’ll see this arrow on each one. As long as you have allowed Tagwhat to use your location, this arrow will point you in the direction of the event nearby. This may be little more than a gimmick but it’s still kind of neat. There aren’t a lot of negatives in this app. I did find it would freeze on occasion and there aren’t really any instructions but the app is pretty easy to figure out. This app will require 11.9 Mb of free space on your IOS device.

How it Works

To get the most out of this app, you’ll want to allow it to connect with your Facebook, Twitter, and Foursquare accounts. If you’re not comfortable with that then this is definitely not the app for you. Once you’re connected, you can choose the different channels you are connected to. You can connect to one at a time, multiple channels, or all of them – the choice is yours. To add a channel tap on the menu icon in the top left corner – there are quite a few channels but I really liked the Deals and Events category. It’s a matter of personal preference. Once you’re satisfied with your choice just tap on done and you’ll be able to view all the appropriate tags near you. As you scroll down the list you’ll notice the app tells you the distance from your location to the event which is really helpful. When you access a tag you can view all the details about the even and you can save it in a favorite’s category to go back to later.
