Share Your Campus Moments

There are many apps dedicated to campus life and it takes something a little special for an app to catch on and let’s face it: the college crowd can be fickle at times. Sip - campus pics and vids was created so that college students can share the best moments of college life. The app is designed to use your location to find the closest college campus to you, and display the best moments that have been shared by other people on the same campus. It’s a great way to find out what’s going on around campus and by focusing on your local campus the app aims to keep things relevant to your own experiences.

Best iphone and ipad apps

The great thing about this app is that it doesn’t require you to use any of your other social media profiles to use the app. Unfortunately it’s quite common for new social media apps to piggyback off of the established social networks such as Facebook or Twitter, so the fact that this app stands on its own is a big plus. The problem is that there just aren’t that many people using it. In my area it said that I was the first user in my area but here are several major colleges near me including Syracuse so this was a definite disappointment. This app will require 15.2 MB of available space on your iOS device.

How it Works

When you open the app for the first time you’ll be prompted to allow the app access to your location. Unfortunately if there are no users on the campuses in your area the app will simply tell you that you are the first user in your area and suggest that you should be the first one to post and it will prompt you to invite your friends. You also have the option to switch to the featured feed, which will then draw from posts that are popular on other campuses. This is a great way to view the potential of the app, but if you’re hoping to use the app to find out what’s hot on your own campus you may be disappointed.

The app is actually quite easy to use: to add a post you simply tap on the picture icon in the top right corner and find the picture you want to use in your photo library. If you like you can add a comment as well. You can view your own posts anytime by tapping on the home tab on the bottom menu bar. To add a comment on someone else’s post you simply tap on the posted picture, and that tap on the text bubble to add your comment. The app is quite easy to use and if more people adopt the platform it has the potential to be quite popular.
