Refresh English Everyday app review: improve your knowledge of the English language

For non-native speakers, English can be a very challenging language to learn. It contains certain idiosyncrasies and odd little quirks which simply aren’t present in other languages. Refresh English Everyday is an app designed to help you with your struggle to master the English language. While this is a great idea for an app, unfortunately this app doesn’t always get the English right which is kind of strange for an app specifically designed to help you with your English. This app is available for purchase from the App Store at a cost of $3.99 and it’s compatible with the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Improve Your English

The App Store is full of language education apps and there are some good ones. Some of the better ones include lots of pictures for word association and little games to let you work on your language skills. Refresh English Everyday doesn’t utilize these types of techniques, instead it adopt a fill-in-the-blanks quiz format. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing; at least it wouldn’t be if there weren’t some fundamental flaws in this app.

I had concerns about this app before I even began the download. The description of the app in the App Store includes some of the worst examples of errors in English grammar you’re likely to come across. While the instances of grammatical mistakes do not seem to be as common in the actual app, there are some. This is difficult to understand in an app that’s supposed to help you with your English. There are also a lot of ads in this one and they’re large enough to be a little annoying. This app will require 9.8 MB of available space on your iOS device.

How it Works

The actual layout of this app is pretty decent. The first thing you have to do is to select the level of English you consider yourself to by tapping on one of the available levels on the main page. After you’ve made your selection you’ll be asked to answer a question by choosing the correct word to complete the phrase. Each question has four possible options and you simply tap on the one you think is right. Once you’re satisfied with your answer you have to tap on the score icon at the bottom of the page. After you’ve registered your score you tap on next to go to the next question.

The app will keep a continuous tally of the number of questions you’ve answered correctly and the ones you’ve guessed wrong at the bottom of the page. The layout is simple and elegant; it’s just too bad that an app that is designed to help you with English contains basic grammatical errors, otherwise this could actually be a great little app.

Pros and Cons

  • Simple and elegant layout
  • Six different level options

  • Includes large ads
  • Contains basic grammatical errors

Final Words

Refresh English Everyday has the potential to be a great app but it falls short because of some basic errors in grammar which are hard to ignore in an app that’s supposed to be helping you with grammar. The layout works pretty well, it’s just hard to recommend this app when it contains such errors. If the developers could clean these up this app would be a lot more worthwhile.
