Fun with ABC’s and Math

There’s no shortage of apps that are billed as the best educational tools available for your children: some live up to the bill and others are just plain disappointing. HooplaKidz Fun with ABC and 123 is definitely one of the better kid’s educational apps available in the App Store. It has all the ingredients you look for in a kid’s educational game: there are fun games that help your children learn, great narrative that clearly explains what your child should do next, and of course colorful and fun graphics.

The best iPhone apps for kids

What I really like about this app is that it doesn’t cut any corners. It walks your child through the alphabet or through their numbers step-by-step in sequence. Cutting corners doesn’t do children any favors and the developers of this app have clearly recognized this fact. There was one little glitch though: from time to time the app seemed to get stuck in a little loop when I tried to return to the menu screen. When this happened, the only thing to do was to restart the app. This didn’t happen often, but often enough to be a little annoying. This app will require 33.4 MB of available space on your iOS device.

How it Works

This app features a fun interface for kids with a main menu that features a train puling the different gameplay options behind it. There are five different learning games your child can choose from, and each is represented by its own carriage on the train. The train also features the traditional train horn, the sound of the wheels rolling, a cute little conductor, and her dog in the back carriage. It’s a great little package with lots of appeal for the little ones.

Games include alphabet primers, math primers, and color primers. The idea in the games is either to complete the sequence or choose the correct answer from a multiple choice list provided by the developer. There are also puzzle games and great sound effects as well. It’s got everything you’d expect from a winning children’s app an a few little extra surprises as well.

Final Words

Finding a quality children’s app isn’t always easy. There’s certainly a lot of choice in the App Store, but choice doesn’t always equal quality.
