Discover Hidden Treasures

Perhaps you’re new in your town/city or maybe you’ve lived there you whole life. No matter how long you’ve been there, it’s impossible to know absolutely everything happening at all times. It’s also very normal to get bored of the same old places and the same old things, so mixing it up can be a fun thing to do. The OMGwhen app makes it possible to discover all kinds of treasures happening near and around you. This one supports a huge list of cities from all the over the world, which also makes it handy when traveling. At any given time there are more than one million activities and events listed in the app.

And it's not just a list of random activities; instead, this app is able to offer personalized recommendations that fit your interests. As you come across activities and events that catch your eye, you can save them and start to build your own itinerary. Saving them is simple, it just requires one tap and it will be saved to your calendar automatically.

What to Expect

The app has been developed by OMGwhen Ltd. and they took great pains to make the experience intuitive, personalized, and very easy to use. Activities and events are broken down into categories such as sports, workshops, shopping, lectures, popular, concerts, food, kids, nightlife, and more. You can search through each of these categories, or perform a more specific search if you prefer.

The whole goal of the app can be summed up into one sentence by the developers who state “With more than one million events around the globe, OMGwhen helps you be in the know about all the things you love to do.” And it’s really that simple. You can launch the app any time and discover things happening so you can fill in those quiet dull days with ease.

Not only was the user interface created to be clean and simple, but the developers seem to have a firm grasp on who their users are. The fact parents have their own section, the LGBT community is represented, and there are even educational activities you can discover, it's a one-size fits all approach at the end of the day.

While we are discussing the app in this review, it’s also important to point out that the app is supported through your web browser as well. You know for those rare moments you don’t have your mobile device with you.

Swiping Through the Options

When you first launch the app you will need to connect through Facebook or sign up for an account. Don't worry, both are free to do. Next it will ask to access your location, which is important so it can find what’s happening near you. There is a quick set-up process the first time, but this is well worth the steps because here is where you input your interests. This will allow the app to make those personalized recommendations. If you want to use a different location/address just go ahead and manually type it in. From there the bar along the bottom of your screen will act as the navigation tool. You can view personalized recommendations “For Me” that match your interests, there are the events/activities you have marked as favorites, or you can view “All Events.”

As you come across an event that looks interesting, you can tap on it to get more information including a map of its location. You can share the event by email or iMessage, add it to your calendar, and/or mark it as a favorite within the app. If you want to change the date and location you can do so at any time.

What’s really noticeable about the app is not just the wealth of information it provides but the speed at which the content, photos, and maps load. There is no lagging whatsoever, which makes it all the faster to find things happening near and around you. It’s the kind of app that you may think you’ll use here and there but then it quickly becomes one of your go-to apps.

It’s great to use in your hometown and just as helpful when you’re traveling and looking for things to do. While it doesn’t yet support all the major cities around the world, it does support a large handful, giving you plenty to work with.
