Local Cloud app review: open files while on the go

Reviews

Introduction

Local Cloud by Delite Studio S.r.l. lets you open your files that are currently stored on your PC or Mac on your mobile device. This is excellent and convenient for those who need to work on the go or just want access to their files no matter where they are. The app combines the speed of your local network with the protection of the cloud. This app was updated on June 27, 2013 and is available in English and Italian.

User Experience

Upon launching the app you’ll be taken to a rather basic and simple main screen menu. There is a tutorial located on the main screen and it is highly recommended you take it as the app has a lot of features, functions, and tools that can be confusing otherwise. This app was built with businesses in mind so it offers a high level of security and control along with other features.

Features

This app is able to work securely inside your firewall and employs modern encryption in order to transfer your files. This was done specifically for business users so they have peace of mind and security when using it.

The app can integrate with your office and/or home with a simple one-time set up. This process doesn't require any additional hardware, is free, and takes only seconds to complete. Local Cloud gives you a full-featured file manager that is compatible with file transfer, Dropbox integration, and has a built-in file viewer so you can open almost all file types.

File types can include compressed archives, pictures, and documents. Use the app to send files as email attachments and to specific third-party apps, compress attachments before emailing them, import your videos and photos, print with AirPrint, create folders, browse folders in your Dropbox from Local Cloud, and plenty more.

Quickly and easily send and receive files, clipboard, and folders in real-time by using Bluetooth (2) or WiFi. In order to send and receive you will also need to use: file storage compression (free for Windows and Mac); file storage for iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch; file transfer for Mac, Windows, iPod touch, iPhone, iPad, and Android; iTunes file sharing; or the app itself.

Personal Comments by Reviewer

As soon as I launched the app I felt a little underwhelmed. I was perhaps expecting a sleeker-looking design, maybe more options, or just a more flashy feel. The app is very basic-looking but once you start using it and its features you’ll see that it’s important not to let looks be the judge. This app proves to be very user-friendly, helpful, and convenient. I can see why it’s especially popular for business uses.
