SkyGrid app review: the app that builds you a personalized newspaper

Reviews

Introduction

Skygrid, developed and published by the company with the same name, is a news reader app that collects articles specifically for you. You can select different news categories and publications, and the app will build you your own digital newspaper. Skygrid is one of the biggest news apps on the App Store, and has been featured in tons of Best Of lists. With a high star rating, and the claim that this is the number-one app with the most usage per month, I can’t wait what this app has in store for me!

Customize and Personalize Your SkyGrid Experience

When you start using the app, you simply get the most recent and popular news brought in front of you. After a few seconds, the app asks you if you want to personalize. Tap yes, and you will get lists of all kinds of topics and media outlets. Weirdly enough, these are all mixed in together, so in the same list you’ll have Buzzfeed and Megan Fox.

Some of the subjects are also categorized a bit strangely; for example, video games are under Science and Technology, while I think that video games are definitely a form of entertainment. Anyway, after you’ve followed different topics or outlets, your news page will slowly fill up. If you have selected a topic, expect a lot of similar articles from different media outlets.

Fantastic Design and Other Functions

The app design is absolutely awesome. Every screen simply has nine images on it, each of which you can tap to go to relevant news items or topics. Navigating around in the app is easy, fluent, and I’ve never spotted any loading times whatsoever. And remember, if you like an article that isn’t in your news section yet, you can always tap the Follow button.

Next time an article is released, it will show up in your news section. When you’ve found an article, you can easily go out of the app to view the news in Safari, or you can save it to your Instapaper reading list. In terms of social network options, you can share any news article via Facebook or Twitter, as well as iMessage and email.

Conclusion

SkyGrid is now my news reader of choice. Even though it took a bit of getting used to, and time to set up my personal news feed, I now get a digital newspaper delivered to me on my device every time I open it! With the app only taking up just over 6 MB of space and with its compatibility for both iPhone and iPad, there is no reason not to download this app and give it a go. There is news for everyone.

Cancel your newspaper subscription, as with SkyGrid, you don’t need it any more (unless you get it for the crossword).
