Dublin is a city that has inspired great authors throughout history, and continues to inspire to this day. Storymap City of Words is a new app that lets you tap into those places of inspiration in a fascinating new way. At each stop you can access a literary piece inspired by that location - and watch it told in HD video or listen to a crisp audio recording as you walk.
The app opens a wide range of possibilities. Cross the city in poems from some of Ireland's leading poets - mixing classic works of Patrick Kavanagh, with modern pieces from cutting edge poets such as the rapper Temperamental Misselayneous, Slam poets Stephen James Smith and Colm Keegan, and many more. Explore authors lives through their homes and haunts - from anecdotes on the world famous James Joyce and Bram Stoker to lesser known authors such as Sheridan LeFanu and James Clarence Mangan. You can also tap into new works by the cream of Ireland's authors - including stories from Kevin Barry, Roddy Doyle, and Dermot Healy.
The app includes a number of interesting rambles - themed walking routes that take you through the city. Hop on any of these to explore a different shade of Dublin literary life. Or simply tap in a destination and create your own!
