Sonny Dickson, who leaked details that turned out to be true on the iPhone 5S last year, has tweeted an image of what he says is a design change to the Lightning cable for the iPhone 6. The company has no plans to change the reversible eight-pin dock, but the other end will also be reversible. Right now, you can only plug in a USB cable into your computer or other outlet (like in cars or on the Apple wall charger) if you look at which way is facing up. To make it reversible would make it a little faster every time a user plugged in the cable.
Dickson didn’t say where he got the photo, and although he got a lot of stuff right last year, he still got some wrong. It’s quite possible that the iPhone 6 will not have a reversible USB cable. With that said, Apple won’t be the first company to offer such a thing; there are quite a few third-party providers who do, and a new “Type-C” USB standard is in the works and it is reversible as well.
