A new photo has appeared this week that shows some of the retail packaging of the highly rumored low-cost iPhone. From this photo we can see that the device will be called the “iPhone 5C”.
The photo appeared on a forum over the weekend. This forum (WeiPhone) has been responsible for other leaks of Apple devices. The packaging looks like it would fit with a low-cost iPhone: it’s plastic and quite basic-looking, much like the low-cost iPhone itself. However there’s no way of confirming if this is the packaging or not.
There’s only one bit that we can’t quite get our heads around – the name, “iPhone 5C.” What does the "C" stand for? It’s generally assumed that the S in the iPhone 4S and 3GS stood for speed, but C? Cost? That doesn’t sound like an Apple product. It might stand for color, given the device is expected to be available in several different colors.
