Android-powered iPhone 5C clone costs just $100 in China

The iPhone 5C is widely expected to launch next month starting at a cheaper price than the iPhone 5S. It’s Apple’s answer to the emerging markets and pre-paid dominated markets where consumers don’t want to pay upwards of $500 for a phone upfront. Despite the device not yet being released, some enterprising Chinese clone specialists have already made up an Android clone of the device.

The device is called the “i5C” and looks very similar to the leaks we’ve seen of the iPhone 5C. It’ll retail for just $100 in China and sports a similarly sized four-inch display (although only qHD resolution). It’ll also have a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, quad-band connectivity for GSM networks with 3G support, 1GB of RAM, an 8MP rear camera, and a 2MP front camera (although it’s very likely the sensor will be poor).

The device obviously won’t come running iOS; the manufacturers have opted for Android instead, which is popular for these clone devices due to the open nature of the platform so Google doesn’t have to authorize them.

The manufacturer, Goophone, is well-known for cloning smartphones, especially Apple devices. It even has an iPhone 5S clone from way back in March.
