E-Mountainbike Magazine app review: the world’s leading digital mountain bike magazine

Reviews

Introduction

I have said it once and I will say it again: there are a ton of different magazines in the App Store and all of them focus on the most in-depth and weird subjects. There are magazines focusing on the depths of history and there are magazines that simply focus on one really niche subject such as mountain biking. This is also the case with the app I will review today. E-Mountainbike Magazine by 41Publishing & Marketing is an app that you can find in the Newsstand and focuses solely on, you can guess it, mountain biking. The app is available for iPad only, which is already a missed beat, and is just 5 MB, but a magazine will be over 200 MB to download.

What it Offers

So as I said before, the app solely focuses on the act of mountain biking. The magazine is exactly what you expect. It focuses mainly on gorgeous photos and articles of this niche sport. The downside of the app is that at the moment, there is only one issue out of the magazine, which is completely in German, though in the future the developer promises to offer English version as well. The reason why the magazine is so obvious about the fact it’s digital only (by simply putting an E in front of the name) is because the app does offer a ton of interactivity. I will go more in-depth about these functions in the next paragraph.

Interactivity and Subscriptions

As mentioned in the previous paragraph, the app is not just simple a magazine. The app has a ton of interactivity to offer, which manifest themselves in terms of interactive pictures, full screen videos and expandable articles. This also results in the issues being terribly huge, weighing way over the 200 MB mark. These are not easy to download, especially when not on Wi-Fi, so you will have to plan ahead carefully. There is a subscription option in the app, but it doesn’t mention anywhere how much this cost and how often you would get an issue. It just connects to the App Store and asks for your details.

Conclusion

All in all, if you are really into mountain biking, this app is truly the one to wait for, unless you speak German. In that case, you should get it straight away! The app has tons of interactivity to offer and is really fun to play around with. This does result in the app being quite large, though for a real fan this shouldn’t be an issue. Subscriptions are available, but don’t go there yet. The app is available for iPad only and is only 5 MB, with a free magazine being over 200 MB.
