According to a new reports from DigiTimes, we can expect to see Apple move to larger iOS devices in 2014. DigiTimes cited its usual sources: various Apple suppliers in the Far East.
These moves wouldn’t be surprising, especially the larger iPhone. All the Android flagships of 2013 had at least a 4.7-inch screen (HTC One, Samsung Galaxy S4 and Sony Xperia Z) and they’ve sold well. The iPad one makes less sense, given the practicality of a tablet that large, especially when it seems that people want smaller tablets, not larger ones (iPad Air sales compared to Retina iPad mini proves this). However DigiTimes claims that the new device is going to be suited to educational usage and perhaps to further the trend of tablets taking over laptop sales.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard these reports: back in July the Wall Street Journal reported that Apple officials were looking into different screen sizes for their best selling devices. Since then we’ve also heard analysts claim similar ideas: Ming-Chi Kuo believes that we’ll see a new iPhone with a 4.5- to 5-inch screen. So although it’s early days, we wouldn’t rule out the likelihood of a larger iPhone next year.
