Curling3D Lite app review: a very good curling simulator
Introduction
There has never been a better time than now to release a winter sports app in the App Store. Interest for any sports to do in the cold has gone through the roof now that the Sochi Winter Olympic Games are in full flow. Developer MaxNick must have realized this as well and decided to create a game about one of the most out-of-place sports at the Olympic Games: Curling. Curling3D Lite for iPad and iPhone actually surprised me. I never thought anyone could make a game about this sport fun, but with the amount of depth and gameplay elements the developer added to the game, I am actually contemplating not deleting this game as soon as I finish this review.

Gameplay
The gameplay in Curling3D is one of the things that blew me away about this app. It plays like a very advanced bowing game and really made me a lot more interested in the sport then I was. A lot of tactics are needed to be successful in this game and it’s not easy. First you need to line up your stone correctly, decide on the speed and the spin you will throw the stone with, and let it slide. While it slides over the sheet of ice, my favorite part of the gameplay starts. You will need to sweep the ice in front of the stone to make it move for longer and to drive it towards the goal. Not only does this look hilarious, but it’s also fun to do. Try and get the stone into the target area and you will score points.

Graphics and Sound
The graphics of the game really stand out. It’s all brought to you in full 3D and you really get the feeling you’re watching the game on TV rather than playing a video game. Not only does the game look good, the sound effects are pretty nice as well, including the sound of the sweepers and the crowd. The game also includes a tutorial the first time you play, making it easy for beginners to understand how to play the game and what the rules are. Some gameplay types are only available in the full version, which costs $4.99.
