Oz Challenge app review: a fun game that allows your kids to explore the story of Oz

Reviews

Introduction

There aren’t many games that are perfect for children, have a message for them to learn from, and don’t overdo it on cuteness and/or violence.  With all the popular games in the App Store, it can be really hard to find one of these games, especially when it comes to kid-friendliness. Most games that would be kid-friendly are littered with in-app purchases and are designed to bleed money from you and your family. Luckily there are also some good games such as Oz Challenge by developer Kids Fun Club by TabTale. This developer has created a game that not only offers great gameplay for kids on both iPad and iPhone, but also brings a lot of diversity and a great message for your kids to learn from.

Gameplay

As mentioned in the introduction, this app has a lot of variety to offer. Sometimes you will have to solve a puzzle, while other times you might have to patch up one of the comrades on your journey down the yellow brick road. All the mini-games are easy to understand and even easier to play. The yellow brick road uses a similar mechanic to Candy Crush, giving you stars on how well you complete different mini-games. When you have reached enough stars, the next part of the adventure will unlock and you can continue on your journey to meet the wizard. ON top of all this you will be rewarded for every level you complete and this results in receiving items for you to dress up Dorothy and her friends!

Graphics and Sound

The art style that is chosen for the game is nothing special, but is definitely not stealing anything from earlier iterations of this story. All the graphics are detailed and nothing is done to save money on any of the graphics in any of the mini games. The sound of the mini games fit well and are of no specific quality, they just work. On this front, the game doesn’t lack anything and is perfect for players young and old.

Conclusion

Even though Oz Challenge didn’t blow me away as soon as I started playing around with the app, it certainly delivered after playing for a while. The diversity it offers will surely not make you bored and the graphics and sound it has to offer outdoes most other free kids games. The game also offers a lot of customizability and there is compatibility for both iPad and iPhone. The app doesn’t force any in app purchases on the user, making this app ideal for both young and old. The app is just under 50 MB.
