Balloon Buffoon app review: a silly little game that can be very addictive

Reviews

Introduction

There are so many free games in the App Store that it’s hard for any paid game to stand out. Unless you have a top-notch license attached to your game, like a Minecraft or FIFA, it will be very hard to even make your money back. Some games are too good to miss, as they have been developed by top indie developers. They might not have a name that rings a bell, but they will become well-known due to the sheer creativity and innovation they offer. I wish I could say the same about Balloon Buffoon, a game by developer Mockingbird Development LLC. This game is available for both iPad and iPhone and is just under 50 MB. The game costs $0.99.

Gameplay

The gameplay of the game is very simple. At the bottom of the screen you see a clown in a bumper car that lets loose balloons on a timed interval. Your task as the white rabbit in the futuristic flying car is to pop all these balloons using the big spike hanging off your car. You move your car around by tilting your device from left to right. This has to be done sitting up straight, as when I was playing this game last night lying down I could’ve kept playing endlessly, as the car kept jumping back and forth. After a while you will move to a next level where the clown will release more balloons and the game will get more difficult.

Graphics and Sound

This being a game you will have to pay for, I was terribly disappointed in the graphical design. The game doesn’t have much variety either in gameplay nor in graphics, as the only thing that will change is the background every few minutes of play. The sound is rather annoying as well, and the whole game looks like this was meant to be a free game. If I’m honest, I won’t recommend anyone to pay $0.99 for this game, simply because you can get so many better games for free in the App Store.

  • Easy to play

Cons

  • The game is buggy at times
  • The graphics, sound and gameplay all don’t deserve a price on the App Store

Conclusion

I feel really sorry to say that I can’t recommend this game. If this game was free and has ad support, I would be a lot nicer, but I think everyone would be disappointed if they buy this game and discover what they bought. The graphics, sound and gameplay are all under par of what you can get on the App Store for free, so $0.99 is just too much to ask. The app is designed for iPhone but works fine on iPad too. The app is just under 50 MB.
