Firefight - WW2 app review: a strategic World War II game with tons of depth 2021

Introduction

I really love strategy games, but not many developers have actually realized a full-fledged real-time strategy game on any of Apple's devices except the home computer.  There has been one successful RTS which was set in feudal China and really used the touch screen mechanic in a hugely original way. The only thing we were missing in the App Store was a great RTS-based WW2 app.

Developer Sean O’Connor has actually pulled this off with Firefighter - WW2. This firefight WW2 app for iPhone is not only set in World War II, it also brings a whole new level to RTS games in the App Store. The app is developed for iPad only and is only 23.5 MB, making it a huge accomplishment for the developer.

Gameplay

I will try to make this as summarized as I can, but there is so much to tell about this game that I might need more than just one paragraph to tell you how the app works. You basically tap on the touch screen to select your troops and tell them where to go by tapping somewhere else on the battle fields.

You then give them an order to move, shoot, or offer cover fire, meaning that as soon as they encounter an enemy, they will follow that command. Your goal is to capture a flag, and when you have done this you get to move to the next level. There are a lot more commands than that, such as artillery moves and all kinds of other special attacks.

Graphics and Sound

For an app that is only 22.5 MB, the graphics are pretty impressive. I wouldn’t say that they look on par with any game that has come out recently and blew everyone away, but the graphics are certainly beautiful for the amount of space they take.

The sound is also pretty cool as the gunfire sounds pretty realistic and the music doesn’t bore or get annoying. All in all, the developer has done a pretty decent job making this app a perfect addition to the RTS genre in the App Store.

Conclusion

Firefight - WW2 has turned out to be a magnificent addition to the RTS collection that is available in the App Store. The game plays like an old adventure game, tapping on the screen and tapping on the different commands.

The game is really small too, while the graphics and the sound haven’t taken any hits. All in all I really want to commend the developer for a medal as he did an amazing job. The app is compatible with iPad only.
