HotelCoupons HD app review: find a great hotel

Reviews

Introduction

If you’re a frequent traveler it pays to shop around for the best available deals on accommodations. We all want the perfect hotel experience, but we’re happy to save a buck when we can as well! HotelCoupons HD is an app that provides some great deals for travelers in the USA. It would be great if they offered the same service worldwide, but at this point in time they don’t. This is a free app, and it’s available for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.

Deals Galore

We live in a coupon mad society. If there’s a deal to be had we all want to find it. HotelCoupons HD is all about finding you the best possible deals on hotel accommodations. There’s lots of competition in this app category so an app needs to provide the user with the best available experience. Not only does it have to point the way to great deals, it also has to be easy to use. How does HotelCoupons HD measure up against the competition?

The best iPhone apps for booking flights

Apps like Expedia, Kayak, and Booking.com provide a great user experience. They provide detailed visitor reviews of accommodations, as well as helping to find the best deals possible. HotelCoupons HD doesn’t really do this at all. The only thing it does, other than allowing you to save on accommodations, is it lets you save a hotel as a favorite if you liked your experience there. There’s no way of knowing what other visitors felt about different accommodations. I felt this was a serious flaw when there is so much competition in this category. Saving with coupons is great, but these other sites offer similar deals through their booking power with various hotels. HotelCoupons HD doesn’t really have a great advantage here – at least not enough to justify its lack of other features.

Using the App

When you open this app you’ll see a split screen. On the left is a list of the accommodations near you, with an image of the hotel if one’s available. On the right side you’ll see a map with your current location, and pins representing the locations of the hotels around you. The app doesn’t require a lot of explanation, which is a good thing because they don’t provide any. You’re left to figure things out for yourself.

There are three tabs at the top that don’t appear to offer too much, other than allowing you to organize your list based on name, price, or distance. They provide the same list, just in a different order. When you tap on a hotel you get a basic background of the hotel, including the features and accommodations they offer, a gallery of pictures you can view to get a feel for the hotel, and you can also get directions to the hotel. Other than that, you can get a coupon to save when staying at the hotel and you can save a hotel you liked in your favorites.

Final Thoughts

This app is just okay. It does what it’s supposed to, it provides the user with coupons to save on accommodations within the US, but doesn’t really do anything else. It would have been nice if it allowed its users to leave reviews of hotels they’ve stayed at. It also would have been nice if it offered coupons for hotels outside of the US. Overall I found this app a little disappointing. It certainly isn't the  best app for cheap hotels or hotel deals on the iOS.
