Adam: Artificial Defence Automation Module app review: a challenging side-scroller

Reviews

Introduction

It’s always refreshing when you find a game that breaks the mold of the steady stream of copycats that are so common in the App Store. There’s no doubting the popularity of games like Flappy Birds and Temple Run, and there’s a whole host of copycats that have attempted to ride on their coattails. It’s understandable to a degree; we all like certain types of games so there’s no need for developers to reinvent the wheel every time they come up with a new app. What we do crave are games that offer interesting innovations on a familiar theme. These are the games that capture our interest. Adam: Artificial Defence Automation Module is definitely one of these games. It’s a lot of fun and quite challenging as well. This is a free app and it’s compatible with the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Robot Action

Games have been extremely popular on iOS devices ever since they were introduced, and one of the most popular category of games features familiar side-scroller in the tradition of the early Mario games and Sonic the Hedge Hog. These games are easy to play and don’t require a lot of instruction. It’s their simple gameplay that makes them so appealing. If you’ve got a few minutes to kill on a subway ride, one of these types of games are a popular choice. Adam: Artificial Defence Automation Module is a great example of a simple side-scroller. The object is simple: keep your robot moving and avoid the obstacles in his way. It sounds simple, but it’s definitely challenging enough to keep you coming back.

One of the most appealing aspects of this game is its simple graphics. There’s nothing fancy in this one but it works. What doesn’t work is the pervasive use of ads that you’ll have to contend with in the free version of this app. There are banner ads at the top of every screen and full-paged ads appear after every third or fourth game unless you get rid of these with an in-app purchase. This app will require 25.8 MB of available space on your iOS device.

How to Play

The objective of this game is pretty simple: you have to keep ADAM moving forward as long as possible by avoiding the obstacles in his way. What makes Adam: Artificial Defence Automation Module unique is how you do this. Your robot has two connected parts, his head and his body. To avoid obstacles you have to raise and lower his head or his body by tapping on the left and right arrows at the bottom of the screen. For the most part it’s his head that will raise or lower, but from time to time you’ll have to rest his heat on a conveyor belt and raise his body out of the way of obstacles. It’s quite challenging and a whole lot of fun. The app also features Game Center integration so you can compare your progress against others around the world.
