PolyGen by Bartlomiej Neimtur is an interesting little app that lets you create wallpaper for your device from crystal patterns. It’s a novel idea, letting the user create their own wallpaper instead of simply downloading artwork made by someone else from the dozens of wallpaper sites out there, and it’s fun as well. There are lots of different colors to choose from and you can play with the patterns a bit. The great thing about this app is that you don’t have to know how to draw: anyone can explore their creative side with PolyGen. This is a free app and it’s compatible with the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
There are a few other apps that do something similar to PolyGen, but not very many and most of them are not free. They generally offer a similar set of features, allowing you to make colorful wallpaper with different kinds of geometric patterns. There’s no great variety in most of these apps and that also sets PolyGen apart. This app does provide you with a lot of choice. With PolyGen you can control how the patterns appear on the page, the size of the patterns, and the colors.
There are a couple of issues with this app. The developer has not included any instructions or direction at all. While it is a pretty straight forward app there are enough different options that a clear set of instructions should have been included. The other drawback is that there are some banner ads as well along the bottom but they don’t really interfere with the operation of the app. This app will require 3.3 MB of available space on your iOS device.
The main screen of this app features a simple menu in the center with three options. The first one, titled Abstract Colors, is really the main section of the app. From here you can choose anywhere from one to five colors for your artwork, and there are more than twenty-five colors to choose from so you can create a lot of different variety. This section also includes a set of tools to change the directions of the colors: you can display them horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
The other great feature of the app is that it allows you to take any photo and superimpose geometric patterns overtop of it. It’s impressive what great designs you can create with this feature, and because you can use photos as a base you’ll never run out of new things you can try. The app also includes links to the developers Facebook and Twitter pages.

If you’ve always wanted to create your own wallpapers but artwork isn’t your strong point then PolyGen is a great tool to help you overcome this hurdle. With this app you can create great looking wallpaper in a matter of seconds, and with the ability to use photos within the pictures your choices are limitless. This app is a lot of fun and definitely one to check out
