'Band Of The Day' Is the Ultimate Opening Act
True music junkies are constantly on the lookout for new ways to discover bands. There are the traditional routes—friend recommendations, popular music charts—there are even those bountiful download cards that show up at Starbucks every Tuesday.
Band of the Day by
955 Dreams is the first mobile app to really target the music recommendation market, and it does so with style.
Band of the Day’s design is brilliantly executed. The home screen is an interactive calendar: tapping on a date will open the corresponding band of the day. Once you’ve selected a band you can choose from the provided content, including: bios, album reviews, and fan buzz (drawn from artist’s social media pages). You can also check out video content and a full discography. The embedded music player allows you to listen to full-length songs without exiting the app. If you find a new favorite, you can share it via email, Facebook, or Twitter.
Band of the Day allows you to ditch the pretentious banter behind “the band no one’s heard of”, and get right down to the good part—the music. Exclusive content and horizontal flip-through design set this app apart from the rest of the music apps attempting to infiltrate the popular category. A “similar artists” tab might be a nice addition to the featured content by providing a little insight to artist genre and style. As it is, Band of the Day does is the perfect platform for up-and-coming artist to get noticed and gain traction among the right demographic. After all, smartphone users are some of the most active consumers around.
Although new users are gifted a free week of service, Band of the Day is subscription based. You can pay $.99 per month or $9.99 per year for full access.
