Introduction
When planning a trip anywhere in the world, knowing the country you’re going to is important. Luckily for United States citizens, the United States Department of State has created a basic-looking travel planner app that has travel information for all countries in the world.
The best iPhone apps for travel
Each and every country has extensive information available, be it the simple travel warnings that people always take way too seriously, or simple facts about anything a traveler might encounter during their trip.
Be aware, this iPhone travel planner app is created for people from the United States, though relevant information can be found for any traveler.

Simple but Efficient Design
The Smart Traveler app is extremely basic in design. This actually helps the app, as it’s small in size (just over 5 MB) and loads all information really quickly.
The best Detroit apps for iPad
For every country there is an in-depth “know before you go” page, informing you about everything you need to know, such as alerts and warning, crime and safety, health and medical facilities, and even a detailed map of the country with the largest cities shown.
This information is helpful for any traveler, be it from the United States or anywhere else in the world. When available, a U.S. Relations Fact Sheet can be found here too, as well as contact information for the U.S. Embassies and/or consulates.
Travel Warnings and Alerts
Under the Travel Warnings section, all long-term travel warnings are summed up. These are divided per country as well, which makes them easy to browse.
Best iphone and ipad apps
If you are traveling to a country on this list, make sure you read this warning carefully, as most of the time, these warnings aren’t relevant for the entire country, but just small parts of it.
Having traveled to a load of these countries myself in the last year, I can easily say that these warnings should be taken with a pinch of salt.
If you don’t particularly show off your bling, and avoid going out at night in dark alleys, you should be absolutely fine wherever you go in the world. Just use your common sense.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Extremely easy to use and simple in layout
- Tons of information and maps for every country
- Great for travelers from the United States as well as anywhere else in the world
Cons
- Most information should be taken with a pinch of salt
Conclusion
The United States Department of States has done a great job on collecting all the information available and making it accessible to anyone who wants it. The information in the app is relevant, though some of the warnings are a little bit overdone.
It’s obviously like that to cover the U.S. Department of States in case anything goes wrong with a United States citizen. If you just use your common sense, none of the countries with warnings out are particularly dangerous to travel.
The app is compatible with both iPad and iPhone, meaning you can take it anywhere you go.
