Free Children's Books with Read Along: FarFaria app review: a library in your pocket

Reviews

Introduction

Free Children’s Books with Read Along: FarFaria is an iPad and iPhone app that is a library in your hands. What makes FarFaria different from other children’s library apps, is that of the 700 books available, your child can read one free every day. It does have a subscription service for monthly or yearly as the other apps do, but you can get one book free. Every day. That is awesome!

FarFaria Does it Better

Free Children’s Books with Read Along: FarFaria is a children’s library consisting of over 700 books with at least five new books added daily. The books are organized into a series of islands for themes named Mt Make Believe, Animal Kingdom, Adventure Island, Fairy Tale Falls, Classics Grove, Bedtime Bluffs, Preschool Playground, Genius Jungle, Sing Along City, Looney Lagoon, and GoodLand. I selected the Mt Make Believe to check out a sample, and found that there were a lot of great choices!

The book that I selected was a Level One for my two-year-old to look at with me.  It was called 10 Little Schnoos, and practiced counting. You can select Read to Myself, Read to Me, and Autoplay. If you do not select Autoplay, you just swipe your finger to turn the page. A lot of other apps have an arrow that your child has to tap, but the swipe is a lot more common in apps like Kindle or Overdrive.

Limitations

Free Children’s Books with Read Along: FarFaria allows one free book a day. Now be ready to read that one free book, because once you select it, you get to read it once. While it is great to get a free book every day, I would really like it if I could read the book more than once. Little kids love repetition, and reading the same book 10 times in a row is not uncommon. It would be nice if I could do that without having to wait 10 days to do it. That being said, it is the only library app, other than the actual town library, that allows a free book every day. Others allow one book, the same book, and only that book ever until you subscribe. I appreciate a new book every day.

Final Thoughts

Free Children’s Books with Read Along: FarFaria is an iPad children’s library app that has over 700 books to choose from. Whether you want to subscribe for the year for $39.99, the month for $4.99, or just get one book a day for free, this app is great! I love that I can download a free book every day and read it to my kids at bed time. I do have to make sure they are all in the same room when we do so, however, as I can only play the book through, or read it through, once. This is a bit annoying, as I have three kids with three different bedtimes. That being said though, the app is the only one I’ve found that allows a different free book every day, and this is definitely an awesome feature that allows people who cannot afford a subscription to download books as well.
