Dippy Dally app review: a fun little game with a twist

Reviews

Introduction

It wasn’t that long ago that Flappy Birds was the biggest craze in the App Store and it’s spawned a lot of copycat games. Most of these games are virtual clones of Flappy Birds with slightly different characters and worlds. Dippy Dally fits into the Flappy Birds category of games but it presents a whole new twist to the game play; it’s fun and it will keep you coming back again and again. This is a free app and it’s compatible with the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Inverted Fun

Sometimes a game comes along that isn’t really anything new it just offers a little twist on something that’s been done before; that aptly describes Dippy Daily. The developers of this one decided to create a game with the look and feel of Flappy Birds but with the controls inverted. Instead of falling to the ground if you stop tapping on the screen, in Dippy Dally the character rises up into the sky if you stop tapping. It’s an interesting twist on a familiar theme.

The graphics in this one are nothing special but that’s part of the charm. There are virtually no ads and no in-app purchases; this game really is completely free which is quite refreshing. There aren’t too many free apps with minimal ads. If you like a basic fun little game then Dippy Dally is a great choice. The app will require 12.8 MB of free space on your iOS device.

How to Play

The look and feel of the game really is a lot like Flappy Birds but it has a few little extra surprises. The most interesting one may be the inverted gameplay. In these types of games you tap on the screen to guide your character through tubes; it’s pretty standard. What’s different about Dippy Dally is that when you don’t tap at the right time your character flies up to the top of the screen instead of falling to the ground.

Another refreshing twist in this game is that you actually get multiple lives: you start out with five but you gain more for progressing further along the level. Another great feature in this game is that there are actually levels to complete. Most other games in this category simply start over every time your character dies. There’s no continuity to it. I don’t know about you but I find that a little boring after a while. Having levels to complete gives the game a better objective: you’re always working towards a goal. This sense of purpose gives the game a whole new dimension and it’s a lot of fun to boot.
