Free concert tickets that aren't a scam? i was skeptical too
Ever scroll past an app promising free concert tickets and think "yeah, right"? That was me with Loudie. After missing out on seeing Japanese Breakfast because tickets were $85, I finally downloaded it out of desperation. Five weeks later, I've been to seven shows for basically nothing.
Here's the weird part – it actually works. But there's a catch nobody mentions.
My five weeks of concert hopping (and missing)
Started using Loudie right after New Year's when concert season was picking up. First notification came at 2:47pm on a Tuesday. "Beach Fossils at Baby's All Right – claim now." By the time I opened the app (maybe 30 seconds later?) they were gone.
This happened four more times that first week. Started to think it was all bullshit.
Then on day 8, I got lucky. Notification popped while I was already on my phone. Claimed tickets to see Snail Mail at Warsaw. Cost me $2 total for both tickets – that's the "fraud prevention fee" they charge now. Got a confirmation email within minutes. Showed up at will call, gave my name, walked right in. The tickets would've been $45 each normally.
After that first win, I turned on every possible notification setting. Started treating it like those Supreme drops my roommate wakes up for. Phone always charged, notifications on loud, finger ready. Won six more shows over the next month, including Fontaines D.C. (which I never would've paid $70 for but holy shit they're good live).
Missed probably 20 other shows though. Sometimes the app shows tickets were posted "3 minutes ago" but they're already gone. Other times I'll get the notification 10 minutes late. The algorithm for who gets notified first is a mystery – maybe it's based on how active you are? Or just random? Nobody really knows.
The tickets are always will call, which means waiting in an extra line at the venue. Not ideal if you're trying to catch the opener. And once I had a mini panic when they couldn't find my name, but it turned out they'd listed it under my friend's name (the one I'd invited through the app).

The pros and cons
Pros
Legitimately free tickets (just $1 fee per ticket)
Major artists included, not just unknowns
Forced me to discover new bands
Customer support actually responds
Works with Live Nation and AEG venues
Cons

What reddit thinks about loudie
Found a thread on r/concerts where someone called it "basically playing lottery with your notifications on." That's... pretty accurate actually. Users in NYC and LA love it, everyone else is jealous. Bunch of people confirmed winning tickets to bigger shows like The 1975 and Khruangbin.
App Store reviews are sitting at 4.7 stars from over 12,000 reviews Loudie: Concert Tickets on the App Store. Recent complaints mostly about the notification delays. But scrolling through, there's tons of "holy shit it actually works" reviews from people who scored free tickets.
MacRumors has zero discussion about it (makes sense, it's not really a tech app). But on Twitter, @loudieapp actually helps people who have issues with their claims Loudie - Discovering concerts has never been easier. Saw them sort out someone's will call problem last month.
The LA music scene threads on Reddit treat it like an open secret. One user said "it's kind of like filling up seats of an airplane that's already flying somewhere" Loudie: Concert Tickets on the App Store – venues would rather have bodies buying drinks than empty seats.
How they make money (since nothing's really free)
Did some digging because free tickets seemed too good to be true. Loudie charges around $1 per ticket as a service fee Frequently Asked Questions. They also work with promoters who want to fill venues – better to have people there buying drinks and merch than empty spaces. Through partnerships with Live Nation, AEG, Golden Voice, and Red Light Management, Loudie says it has distributed more than 1,500 concert and festival passes in the last year Elevator Pitch: Loudie App for Concert Lovers | Fox Business.
The catch? They make money from the venues/promoters, not really from users. Plus that $15 late cancellation fee probably adds up from flaky people. It's basically a marketing cost for venues - give away some tickets, create buzz, sell more drinks.
Features that actually matter
The multi-city browsing they added recently is clutch if you travel. I can check LA shows when I'm visiting next month. The "join" feature lets you mark shows you're interested in without claiming tickets - kind of like a public wishlist your friends can see.
Artist tracking pulls from your Spotify, which sounds cool but honestly just clutters your notifications with bands you listened to once in 2019. Better to manually follow only the artists you'd actually pay to see.
The social stuff is pretty basic. You can see what shows your friends are going to, but it's not Instagram for concerts or whatever they originally tried to build. Most people just use it for the free tickets.
Search actually works well for finding specific venues or dates. Way better than scrolling through Ticketmaster's disaster of a calendar. And unlike StubHub, you're not looking at marked-up resale prices.
My verdict after 35 days
Look, if you live in NYC, LA, or one of the other major cities they cover, just download it. Worst case, you delete it after a week. Best case, you see a bunch of free shows.
The app's far from perfect. The notifications are frustratingly inconsistent. You'll lose out on most tickets you try to claim. And yeah, standing in the will call line while the opener's playing sucks.
But I've seen seven shows for $14 total. That includes bands I never would've discovered otherwise (seriously, check out Snail Mail if you haven't). Even if I only win one show a month going forward, that's worth keeping the app around.
Just dont expect to get those Olivia Rodrigo tickets everyone's fighting over. This is for the Tuesday night show you weren't sure about paying $40 for anyway. And honestly? Some of my best concert experiences have been exactly those kinds of nights.
Pro tip: follow venues near you, not just artists. The venue-specific giveaways have way better odds than the artist ones that everyone's watching.
Still using it? Yeah, absolutely. It's become part of my routine now. Check it while having morning coffee, see what's available, maybe get lucky. Worst part is explaining to friends that no, it's not a scam, I really did get us free tickets. They never believe me until we're inside the venue.
