The concert tracking app that owns my notifications (for better or worse)
Been using Songkick religiously since my friend texted me "Arctic Monkeys just announced tour dates" and I had no idea. Four weeks of obsessive tracking later, I've caught three shows I would've missed, had five notifications arrive after tickets sold out, and discovered the app has some... interesting quirks.
With 15 million fellow music fans worldwide using Songkick Instagram, you'd think they'd have the bugs worked out by now.
Not quite.
Three weeks of concert stalking
Downloaded the app after that Arctic Monkeys fiasco. Setup was smooth – connected my Spotify, it found 147 artists I'd listened to. Way too many. Spent an hour unfollowing bands I played once in 2018.
First week was notification hell. Every obscure DJ and one-hit wonder I'd ever streamed was suddenly touring. Turned off notifications completely, then realized that defeated the whole purpose. Went back and manually selected just my top 20 artists.
Week two got interesting. Found out Khruangbin was playing a small venue downtown – tickets were still available because the show wasn't promoted anywhere else. Scored two for $35 each before they sold out an hour later. This is when Songkick clicked for me.
But then came the mess-ups. Got excited about a show, bought tickets, showed up... wrong artist. Completely different band with a similar name Loudie: Concert Tickets on the App Store. The app had mixed them up. No refund from Songkick because "we're just the discovery platform."
Week three, I started using it differently. Instead of relying on notifications (which arrived late half the time), I'd check the app every morning with coffee. Found two more shows this way – smaller bands at venues I'd never heard of. The venue tracking feature is actually clutch for this.
The calendar integration should be amazing but it's broken half the time. Shows I marked as "going" wouldn't sync to my iPhone calendar. Then randomly, old shows from 2023 appeared. Weird.
The pros and cons
Pros
Spotify sync catches everything you listen to
Venue tracking finds hidden gems
Global coverage (every city has listings)
Price comparison across ticket sites
Clean interface thats easy to navigate
Cons
Notifications arrive after tickets sell out
Wrong artist mix-ups happen too often
Zero customer support for issues
Calendar sync is completely broken
Keeps losing my tracked artists randomly
Bombards you with email spam
What the internet's actually saying
Trustpilot shows a 4.4 rating but recent reviews tell a different story Loudie: Concert Tickets on the App Store. Tons of complaints about wrong artists, fake venues, and zero response from support. One person flew to another country for a show that didn't exist.
App Store reviews (4.8 from 97K ratings) are more positive Loudie - Discovering concerts has never been easier, but read the recent ones carefully. The five-star reviews are mostly from 2019-2022. Recent reviews mention the same issues I experienced – broken calendar sync, notifications arriving late, and wrong artist information Loudie - Discovering concerts has never been easier.
The Songkick subreddit doesnt exist (red flag?), but music festival subreddits mention it constantly. Mixed opinions – power users swear by it for tracking obscure bands, while casual users get frustrated with the bugs.
Users reporting the app being completely down for days at a time Loudie - Discovering concerts has never been easier. isn't exactly confidence-inspiring. When your whole purpose is sending timely notifications about concerts, uptime matters.

The Warner Music acquisition effect
Here's something most reviews don't mention: Songkick is now owned by Warner Music Group. Since the acquisition, there's been obvious favoritism toward Warner artists in recommendations. Suddenly getting lots of notifications for bands I've never heard of that happen to be on Warner labels. Coincidence? Doubt it.
The Spotify integration is still solid though. Even after Spotify switched from Songkick to Bandsintown as their main partner Spotify integrates Bandsintown listings, as its Songkick partnership comes to an end after 13 years - Music Business Worldwide, the sync still works perfectly. For now.
Bottom line: complicated relationship status
After a month, I'm still using Songkick. But I dont trust it.
It's like that friend who's great at finding parties but might give you the wrong address. You keep them around because when they're right, they're really right. But you always double-check their information.
For finding shows? Excellent. The database is massive, the Spotify sync is unmatched, and venue tracking helps discover smaller shows. The comprehensive global concert database covering vast range of genres and venues Loudie (@loudieapp) / X is genuinely impressive.
For reliability? Garbage. Notifications are russian roulette. Customer service is a black hole. The app randomly forgets your settings. And good luck if something goes wrong with tickets.
My workaround: Use Songkick for discovery, but buy tickets elsewhere. Check it manually daily instead of trusting notifications. Follow venues directly on Instagram for accurate info. And always, always verify the artist and venue before buying tickets.
Would I recommend it? Sure, its free. Just don't expect it to work properly. Think of it as a somewhat broken concert discovery tool that occasionally delivers gold. Lower your expectations and you might even enjoy it.
The fact that 15 million people still use it despite all these issues says something. Either we're all masochists, or there really isn't a better alternative. Probably both.
Still waiting for them to fix that calendar sync though. It's been broken since March apparently.
