NLife USA Premium app review: easy offline GPS navigation

One of the great things about smartphones and tablets is the range of different things they can do for us. If you need a new recipe for chicken you can find one in seconds with a smartphone or tablet – the tools available at our fingertips is mind boggling. One of the best uses of these devices is as a GPS navigation tool. Gone are the days when we had to be a separate GPS navigation device.

All we have to do now is download the right app. The only problem with that is these types of apps normally require some kind of data or Wi-Fi connection to work. NLife USA Premium works even if you have no access to data or Wi-Fi. This app is available for purchase from the App Store at a cost of $19.99 and it’s compatible with the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.

Offline Navigation

Any popular GPS navigation app needs to come with a complete set of navigation tools to be a success.  NLife USA Premium has all the tools you’ll need to get you where you’re going. It includes the standard features such as point to point rout planning and voice navigation, but it also includes some extra features such as access to speed cameras and integration with Foursquare and Facebook. They’ve pretty much thought of everything with this one.

There’s a lot to like in this app. By default, the app works great if you’re driving in the continental United States. For those of you taking a road trip to Canada or Mexico, an in-app purchase is required for maps of these countries. The other issue with this app is the sheer size of it. This is one of the largest apps you’re likely to ever download. You’ll need at least 2.68 GB of available space on your iOS device for this one! I guess the ability to navigate offline has its trade-offs.

How it Works

When you open the app you’ll notice the map view defaults to your current location which is pretty standard for a GPS navigation tool. The rest of the app will also be very familiar for anyone that’s used a GPS tool before. The easiest way to get started is to use the Quick Search tool bar at the top of the screen. All you have to do is type in your destination in this bar and the app will automatically plot you’re route and give you voice directions as you drive. As a nice little feature a demo video is included that shows you a simulated turn by turn navigation of a particular route. It’s a good way to get a feel for how the app works.

In the bottom right corner of the app is an icon you can tap on to choose different landmarks that will appear on your route such as gas stations and motels. It’s a nice feature. To access the main menu there’s a menu icon in the top left corner. Here you can access features that will allow you to change the look and feel of your maps. You can also control the volume of the voice navigator from within this menu as well.

Final Words

NLife USA Premium is a great GPS navigation app that works even if you don’t have a data or Wi-Fi connection. All the features you’ve come to expect in this type of app are included. It is a little large so you may need to clear some space before you can use this app, but if you do a lot of traveling it’s probably worth it.
