The Kalimba is an African musical instrument, common throughout Subsaharan Africa.
We plan to add some song learning capability for children if there is enough interest.
The instrument has many names including Mbira, Mbila, Mbira Huru, Mbira Njari, Mbira Nyunga Nyunga, Marimba, Karimba, Kalimba, Likembe, Okeme, as well as marímbula (also called kalimba) in the Caribbean Islands.
The instrument was often used to accompany and entertain people on long walking trips because of their portability, perfect for an iPhone.
A game that we like to play (when two or more people have a thumb piano) is to play call and response. Start with one note, your partner repeats and so on until a long, original melody is being played back and forth. Why not try playing them together as well?
If there is enough demand, we will gladly provide alternate tunings. Please feel free to make suggestions and we will try to accommodate.
