There aren’t too many video game characters more iconic than Lara Croft. Ever since the Tomb Raider game was unleashed on our consoles in 1996, we have seen all manner of updates for this famous heroine. From last year’s Tomb Raider movie, to a Tomb Raider slots game, it seems that there is still plenty of hunger for this legendary character.

.

So it’s about time that a decent iPhone gaming app for Tomb Raider came out. Thankfully, the Lara Croft GO game delivers more than its fair share of gaming fun and gives you a decent alternative to the great arcade games for iOS devices. Whilst the Lara Croft GO was released back in 2015, it has received many upgrades so that you can experience all of the fun from your fancy new iPhone X.

.

The Lara Croft GO title is an advanced puzzle game that sees you controlling the character as she explores ancient temples in the hunt for various artefacts. The game’s developers, Square Enix, have been sure to implement a number of increasingly tricky obstacles for Lara Croft to navigate and it quickly becomes clear that this is equally as tough as some of the best iOS puzzle games currently out there.

.

Thankfully Square Enix have made sure that the gaming controls of Lara Croft GO are effortless and intuitive, so that you can swipe and direct Lara Croft through the labyrinths. Whilst many mobile updates of classic console games have suffered, it seems as though this title pays sufficient dues to Tomb Raider titles gone by. This is seen through the lush jungle colours of the graphics even down to the fun saving options of the original PC game.

.

Whilst it can take some getting used to, you should be able to quickly get up to speed and not suffer the pain of watching Lara Croft plunge to her death too many times. There’s a fairly steep learning curve thanks to the evermore fiendish puzzles, but we managed to get to grips with getting Lara to walk, climb, leap and even pull levers to reach her prize.

.

Keep an eye out for some of the game’s fun features with a decent range of weapons like the standard pistols, as well as torches and spears. But it’s the nasty treats like the pits of snakes that make Lara Croft GO such an addictive mobile game. The turn-based gaming might take a little getting used to, and there’s nothing in the way of tutorial, but everything is intuitively designed so that with some trial and error you can help Lara find her ancient artefacts.

.

Be warned that some of the puzzles may make you want to throw your iPhone out of the window, with the urns being particularly fiendish. But on the whole, we found that the Lara Croft Go was a very welcome addition to the Tomb Raider canon. Now if only they could make a Tomb Raider film that was watchable.
