A new report from Korea Times says that Apple might be looking to expand its iPad lineup with a larger model. The new model would feature a 12.9-inch display for release in 2014. The size of the larger model makes sense for productivity purposes, especially if there are high-quality keyboards available for it.
According to this report, these have already started being produced by a supplier in Korea. Not much is known about the device but Korea Times speculates that the display will be of very high quality, similar to ultra-high-definition.
This sort of product could do well against the Surface and other laptop hybrids; however, if it’s simply an iPad with a bigger screen, it might not sell too well. After all, the price would be higher, probably starting around $600 to $700, and it wouldn’t be very comfortable to use as a tablet. It’d just be a glorified touchscreen laptop with a tablet OS. If Apple could somehow get it to run OS X applications alongside iOS applications though, it might be popular (although incredibly complicated for Apple to do).
