iBeacon technology starts to move into the home and NBA arenas

It’s thought that Apple’s new iBeacon technology will have great effects on the retail sector. It should help businesses provide a more personalized shopping experience to their customers. However it might also have personal benefits, interacting with apps when a user is at home.

A new iOS app, "Placed," shows off some of the more personal benefits of the technology. You could set up iBeacon hardware to say, enable a remote app when you sit on the couch. Currently iBeacon technology can’t directly start apps though, so Placed just sends you notifications to manually launch an app.

This new technology has started to be used in sports to help fans and improve their game experience. According to a new report in Business Week, The Golden State Warriors has adopted the technology, installing the Bluetooth transmitters in their arena.
