WSJ: Apple ordering 70M+ iPhone 6 units, biggest launch ever
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple is asking partner suppliers in Asia to increase their mass production of 4.7-inch and 5.5 inch iPhone 6 models. Combined, the order is between 70 million and 80 million units, and Apple wants them by the end of December. This is the biggest initial handset order in Apple’s history. Last year Apple ordered between 50 and 60 million units combined for the launch of the 5S and 5C.

The report also claims that Apple is asking suppliers to have components for up to 120 million iPhones by the end of the year to cover potential display failures. Display makers are thought to be seeing yield issues with the larger screen sizes. Last year Apple asked suppliers to prepare parts for 90 million iPhones.
