Tim Cook takes on Facebook and Google

A new privacy section on Apple’s website says that the company does not build user profiles for advertising and its security researchers greet anti-snooping measures kindly. Tim Cook wrote an open letter to customers, saying that the company takes its customers’ privacy seriously and will not use anyone’s personal data for its own good. He didn't actually call out Facebook or Google, but the message was implied. Cook says that Apple sells “great products” and doesn’t use your data or sell it to advertisers. It doesn’t use the info you have on your iPhone or in iCloud, and it doesn’t read your email in order to market to you. He went on to say that Apple’s iAd system follows the same privacy policy that all other Apple products follow, and doesn’t obtain information from Mail, Contacts, iMessage, Siri, HomeKit, Health, or call history. On top of that, users can totally opt out.
