Analyst: Apple will sell 71.5 million iPhones in holiday quarter

KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has predicted that Apple will sell 71.5 million iPhones during the holiday quarter. If true, that would be about 40 percent more than those sold in the last quarter of 2013. According to Kuo, the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 will account for 60 percent of all the iPhone sales. At the same time, Samsung’s smartphone sales this quarter is lower than expected. This means that Apple could potentially catch up. As for the iPhone 6 Plus, Kuo thinks “only” 15 million will be sold this quarter, but not because of lack of popularity; instead, production is having a hard time keeping up with demand due to supply shortages.

After the holiday, Kuo expects sales will drop to 21.6 million iPhone 6 units and 10.2 million iPhone 6 Plus units for the first quarter of 2015. The analyst expects that the iPhone 4S and 5C will grow next quarter while the 5S will decline.
