Apple is widening its technological reach and has now been granted a patent regarding a method that tracks eye movements which can then be used on computer devices as a way to work the user interface. These vision-based interface system holds a lot of promise as well as some great advantages for people that can't necessarily or don't want to control their device by hand controls.
This new method is also able to counteract visual effects that people sometimes run into if they are staring at a fixed item for a long period of time. What can happen is that after staring at the item for so long your eye can be tricked into thinking it has actually disappeared. So what exactly is the patent for - it's actually the description of the method and how it may be used. The cursor can be controlled by the person's gaze and there is camera equipment that actually tracks the person's eye movements.
There is also talk that this method could eventually be used with the Apple TV thanks to the fact that the company recently bought PrimeSense, who is known for helping to build Kinect for Microsoft.
