Chief Executive Millard Drexler to step down from Apple’s board of directors in March

Apple Inc. has announced that Millard “Mickey” Drexler, J. Crew Inc. chief executive, will leave from Apple’s board of directors in March. Apple’s proxy filing says that Drexler told the board last week that he will be retiring at the end of his term, on March 10. Drexler is a long-time friend of Steve Jobs; he joined the company’s board in 1999 and was instrumental in the rollout of Apples retail stores. Apple doesn’t currently have someone to replace him, so the board will have to work with seven directors until a suitable candidate is found.

Some analysts are venturing to say that the change in board directors is just the latest sign that Tim Cook is putting his own stamp on the company. In the statement, Apple said Cook got $9.2 million in total compensation for the fiscal year ending in September 2014, with $6.7 million of that being a cash bonus. The bonus was for maxing out the high end of the company’s goals for operating and sales income.
